How to tie it
Start the thread on the short shank W633 and run a base to the bend.
Tie in a short tag of Hot Spot Thread at the bend and trim it square. Keep it stubby, on a small wet fly the hot tag is a trigger point, not a tail.
Dub a slim, tapered body of hare or squirrel forward to the 70% mark. Vasies prefers squirrel on some rivers and whenever he goes to small hooks, because it dubs finer than hare and keeps the body slim.
Spin hare guard fur in a dubbing loop and take two or three turns at the front as a hackle collar, stroking the fibres back over the body.
Whip finish a small head. The guard fur hackle replaces a soft hen hackle and gives the same pulsing movement, but it never collapses flat against the body the way a soft feather can.
Fish it on the swing or as a dropper in a team of wets.
