Hare's Ear Silicone Legs-Beadhead

  • Hook 2XL nymph/curved (TMC 5262), 12-16
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Gold tungsten or brass bead Gold bead (3.0-3.8mm to match hook)
  • Lead-free wire (optional) Silver lead free wire (6-8 turns)
  • Hare's mask guard hairs Natural hare (small clump (tail))
  • Gold wire rib Gold wire (small, one length)
  • Hare's mask dubbing Natural hare (abdomen and thorax)
  • Silicone/Sili legs Barred pumpkin (one strand)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead on small-hole first, seat it behind the eye, then start thread and jam 6-8 turns of lead-free wire up into the bead to anchor it.
  2. Run a thread base to the bend and tie in a small clump of hare's mask guard hairs for a tail, one shank length long.
  3. Bind in gold wire at the bend for the rib.
  4. Dub a slim, tapered hare's mask abdomen forward to the 60% mark. Keep it sparse.
  5. Rib the gold wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and helicopter off the tag.
  6. Tie a strand of barred silicone leg across the shank, figure-8ing so a supple leg splays off each side at the thorax.
  7. Dub a fuller, scruffy thorax of hare's ear to the bead, picking out guard hairs with your bodkin.
  8. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
