Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph, barbless, #12-16
  • Thread Brown or hot orange 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper or gold tungsten bead (1 slotted (the bomb))
  • Tail Coq de Leon (few fibers)
  • Body Natural hare's ear (dubbing)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Hot spot Hot orange arctic fox (thread collar)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a heavy slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and mount it.
  2. Tie in a short Coq de Leon tail about half a shank length at the bend.
  3. Tie in a length of fine copper wire.
  4. Dub a slim, slightly tapered hare's ear body forward to just behind the bead.
  5. Rib the body with 5-6 evenly spaced turns of copper wire and tie off.
  6. Build a hot-orange thread hot spot behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish and clip, then pick out a little dubbing at the thorax for legginess.
