Hard Foam Bass Popper

Nymph · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gape bass/popper (kinked or stinger shank), #2-6
  • Thread Color to match body 3/0

Materials

  • Body Chartreuse or white material (hard foam popper cylinder)
  • Tail White uni stretch (bucktail + flash)
  • Skirt White/grizzly skirt (saddle hackle)
  • Legs White rubber legs small (rubber, 2-3 per side)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base over the rear shank where the body will sit.
  2. Tie in a bucktail tail about one and a half shank lengths with a few strands of flash.
  3. Tie in two saddle hackles as a splayed skirt around the tail base.
  4. Cut a slot in the underside of the hard foam popper body and glue it onto the shank with the flat face angled forward as the popping cup.
  5. Anchor the body with thread and a bead of gel superglue so it cannot spin.
  6. Add rubber legs through or alongside the body, two or three per side.
  7. Whip finish at the collar behind the body and cement; touch up eyes on the foam if desired.
