Hamburgler Grillos

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry (Tiemco 3761 or similar), #12-16
  • Thread Black GSP 100D

Materials

  • Underbody Peacock ice dub (ice dub)
  • Body/shell Black ostrich herl (2mm fly foam)
  • Legs Black ostrich herl (round rubber)
  • Indicator Pink ears (McFlylon post)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base, then bind a strip of black 2mm foam on top at the bend.
  2. Dub a band of peacock ice dub forward over the rear half of the shank.
  3. Pull the foam forward over the ice dub and bind it down at the 70% mark to form the beetle shell.
  4. Tie in a pair of black rubber legs at that tie-down point, one to each side.
  5. Bind a short tuft of pink McFlylon on top as a high-visibility indicator.
  6. Whip finish under the foam and clip.
  7. Trim the front foam to a stub over the eye and the legs to length.
