Reference Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater/bonefish, standard, #2-6
  • Thread Pink 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Tungsten jig bomb (1 inverting bead on mono)
  • Tail Tan carapace (arctic fox tail, sparse)
  • Antennae/legs Barred brown rubber legs (rubber crusher legs + flash)
  • Mouth Pearl-orange mouth (Mylar tubing)
  • Eyes Ruby (glass beads on mono, UV coated)
  • Hackle Tan hackle (1 saddle, palmered)
  • Body Orange permanent marker (flat diamond braid)
  • Wing Tan carapace (arctic fox tail + flash)

How to tie it

  1. Mount an inverting tungsten bead on a short piece of flattened mono and lash it to the shank so the bead sits mid-shank and rides point-up.
  2. Start thread at the rear and tie in a sparse arctic fox tail with barred rubber legs and a few strands of flash for antennae.
  3. Bind in a short frayed length of pearl-orange Mylar tubing to suggest the mouthparts.
  4. Add a pair of ruby glass-bead eyes on mono stalks, one to each side.
  5. Tie in a tan saddle hackle and a length of orange diamond braid.
  6. Wrap the braid forward to the eye, then palmer the hackle over it in open turns for legs and tie off.
  7. Tie in a small tan arctic fox wing over the back with a couple strands of flash.
  8. Build a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
