Materials

  • Tail/shuck Brown permanent marker (pheasant tail fibers, short)
  • Abdomen Peacock ice dub (herl)
  • Shellback/wing case Brown thin skin mottled (pheasant tail fibers)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (1 soft hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread to the bend of the curved shank.
  2. Tie in a short stub of pheasant tail fibers as a trailing shuck.
  3. Tie in a second bunch of pheasant tail by the tips to serve as the shellback.
  4. Wrap peacock herl forward to the 70% mark to form a plump abdomen.
  5. Pull the pheasant tail forward over the front half as a shellback/wing case and bind it at the 70% mark.
  6. Take two turns of soft brown hackle for a sparse emerging collar and sweep it back.
  7. Dub a tiny thorax if needed, build a small head, and whip finish.
