Start the Yellow Veevus 14/0 on the Tiemco 3769 and run a base back to the bend. Bind in the Copper Small Wire at the bend and leave it hanging.
Snip six or seven strands of natural Pheasant Tail and bind them in by the tips at the bend. Advance the thread to about two-thirds of the way up the shank (a third back from the head), wrap the pheasant tail forward as a body to meet the thread, tie it off and snip the excess.
Take about ten fibers of Brown Sparkle Emerger Yarn, no more, and bind them on top of the shank at the front of the body so they lie back over it. This fly is meant to be sparse.
Pull the yarn fibers up along the top of the body and spiral the Copper Small Wire forward in even open turns, capturing the yarn along the top on every turn. Bind the wire off at the front of the body and helicopter it out.
Trim the yarn tail to about half the body length, then rough it up and kink it so it reads like a beat-up shuck.
Snip a fairly generous clump of bleached deer hair, trim the butt ends square for a blunt, clean tie-in, and bind the clump on top of the shank at the front of the body with the tips pointing back over the body.
Dub PMD Superfine Dubbing onto the thread a little at a time and build a fairly round thorax in small stages, rather than piling all the dubbing into one turn.
Pull all the deer hair forward over the top of the thorax as a casing and capture it with a wrap of thread, then add a few wraps over and under it to lock it. Snip the deer hair butts.
Coat the thread with a tiny bit more PMD Superfine and cover the deer hair stubs to finish the head, then whip finish under it.
