Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph/scud, down eye, #18-22
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Silver bead (1 small)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (tying thread)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (fine wire)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (sparse dubbing or peacock ice dub)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a small silver bead to the eye and mount the hook.
  2. Start thread behind the bead and lay a smooth base down to the bend.
  3. Tie in a short length of fine silver wire at the bend.
  4. Build a slim, smooth thread abdomen forward to just behind the bead.
  5. Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns for a segmented rib and tie off.
  6. Dub a tiny sparse thorax of ice dub right behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and clip; keep the whole fly slim.
