  • Hook Curved emerger/scud, #14-18
  • Thread Olive or gray 8/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Amber vinyl rib medium (Antron fibers)
  • Abdomen Olive-gray material (dubbing)
  • Wing/thorax Natural dun wing bud (2 CDC feathers)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread down to the bend of the curved shank.
  2. Tie in a short amber Antron trailing shuck about half a shank length.
  3. Dub a slim tapered abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Tie in two CDC feathers by the stems at the 60% mark.
  5. Take two or three wraps of the CDC as a soft dubbing-style collar and wing, letting the fibers splay over the thorax and back over the abdomen.
  6. Bind down and stroke the CDC so half lies as a low wing and half swept back over the shuck, then dub a tiny thorax if needed.
  7. Build a small head and whip finish; add no floatant to the abdomen so it hangs while the CDC holds the film.
