  • Hook 3XL long dry/terrestrial, #8-12
  • Thread Yellow 6/0

Materials

  • Body Pale yellow d rib larva lace (dubbing or yarn)
  • Rib/Body hackle Brown hackle (1 hackle, palmered and clipped)
  • Underwing Yellow mcflylon (small tuft calf/poly)
  • Wing Natural deer hair (sparse bunch)
  • Collar Natural deer hair (spun bunch)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base from eye to bend.
  2. Tie in a brown hackle by the tip at the bend, then dub a fat body forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Palmer the hackle forward over the body in 5-6 open turns, tie off, and clip the fibers flush top and bottom so only stubby legs remain on the sides.
  4. Tie a short yellow underwing tuft flat over the body reaching to the bend.
  5. Stack a sparse bunch of deer hair and bind it as a down-wing over the body, tips reaching just past the bend, shiny side up.
  6. Spin or flare a small bunch of deer hair at the 85% mark to form a collar, sweeping the butts back.
  7. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and clip.
  8. Trim the collar butts flat underneath so the fly sits low in the film.
