Hackle Stacker PMD

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
  • Thread Pale yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Light dun wing bud (few Microfibbets, split)
  • Body Pale yellow-olive material (turkey biot or PMD dubbing)
  • Hackle post Clear hackle (monofilament loop)
  • Hackle Light dun/ginger hackle (1 dry-fly hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread to the bend at the point.
  2. Tie in and split a sparse light-dun Microfibbet tail about one shank long.
  3. Wrap a slim pale yellow-olive biot or dubbed body forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Tie in a standing mono loop as a post and add a light-dun hackle at its base.
  5. Wind the hackle up and back down the mono post to stack it, then capture the tip.
  6. Pull the mono loop forward so the stacked hackle folds flat over the thorax and bind at the eye.
  7. Trim the mono, form a small head, and whip finish so the fly rides flush in the surface.
