Streamer · Carp · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved caddis/scud hook (TMC 2457-style), 6-10
  • Thread Brown 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (medium bead-chain)
  • Tail Brown/olive spandex life flex (rabbit strip (zonker) or marabou)
  • Body Hare's ear natural (hare's ear dubbing)
  • Legs Barred brown rubber legs (few strands rubber)
  • Collar Brown permanent marker (soft dubbing or partridge)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash medium bead-chain eyes just behind the eye so the fly will ride hook-point up.
  2. Start thread back at the bend and tie in a short rabbit-strip or marabou tail for breathing action, about one shank long.
  3. Dub a shaggy hare's-ear body forward to mid-shank.
  4. Tie in a pair of barred rubber legs on each side with figure-8 wraps.
  5. Continue the shaggy dubbing forward, framing the bead-chain eyes with figure-8 wraps.
  6. Add a soft, picked-out dubbing collar behind the hook eye.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and rough up the whole body so it looks like a plump nymph or juvenile crayfish.
