Gurgler Frog

Nymph · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Pike · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap saltwater/bass hook, 1/0-4
  • Thread Green 3/0

Materials

  • Tail Green/white material (bucktail + flash)
  • Legs Barred green rubber legs (round rubber)
  • Body Green shell lip (palmered saddle hackle or dubbing)
  • Shell/lip Green shell lip (2mm foam strip)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread back at the bend.
  2. Tie in a bucktail tail about one and a half shank lengths with a few strands of flash.
  3. Bind a green foam strip at the bend, leaving a long tag hanging back to become the lip later.
  4. Add a pair of rubber legs at the bend, splayed frog-style.
  5. Tie in a saddle hackle and palmer it forward over a dubbed body to just behind the eye, then tie off.
  6. Pull the foam strip forward over the top and bind it down behind the eye, leaving a short tab overhanging the eye as the pushing lip.
  7. Whip finish behind the lip and trim the foam lip to a stub so it gurgles on the strip.
