Gummy Mop

Nymph · Egg · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/jig nymph hook, 10-14
  • Thread Tan 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold or black bead (1 tungsten to size)
  • Tail/body Cream/chartreuse material (1 mop chenille finger)
  • Collar Hare's ear (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a tungsten bead to the eye and mount the hook.
  2. Start thread behind the bead and run it back to mid-shank.
  3. Bind a single mop-chenille finger on top so it extends about one shank length past the bend, its rounded tip forming the fat body.
  4. Wrap forward over the mop butt to lock it firmly and trim the excess close.
  5. Dub a short, shaggy hare's-ear collar behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and pick out the collar to add movement.
  7. Give the thread a drop of cement to keep the mop from pulling free.
