Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
  • Thread Gray 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Grizzly hackle (few hackle fibers or Microfibbets)
  • Body Gray/olive top (fine dry-fly dubbing)
  • Wing White uni stretch (poly yarn upright post)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 dry-fly hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread back to the bend at the point.
  2. Tie in a sparse tail of grizzly fibers about one shank length, splayed for balance.
  3. Post a short clump of white poly yarn upright at the 65% mark for a parachute wing.
  4. Dub a slim, tapered gray body from the bend up to the wing post.
  5. Tie in a grizzly hackle at the base of the post.
  6. Wind the hackle parachute-style, three or four turns down the post, and secure under the wing.
  7. Dub a touch of thorax in front, whip finish behind the eye, and trim the wing to about one shank tall.
