Gulley Worm

Nymph · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap bass/worm hook, 1/0-4
  • Thread Red 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Red buzzer wrap (silicone/rubber worm strands)
  • Body Fluorescent pink rear bump (medium chenille)
  • Head Red buzzer wrap (thread + optional epoxy)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend above the point.
  2. Tie in several long rubber/silicone strands and braid them like a ponytail for a segmented worm tail about two shank lengths long.
  3. Wind thread back over the strand butts to the bend to lock the tail firmly.
  4. Tie in fluorescent pink chenille at the bend.
  5. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to just behind the eye for a full body, then tie off and snip.
  6. Build a red thread head, whip finish, and coat with a drop of epoxy or UV resin, adding a pinch of glitter if you want extra flash.
  7. Trim the braided tail to a lively, tapered length.
