Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook 1XL/2XL nymph hook, 12-18
- Thread Brown 8/0
Materials
- Bead Gold bead (1 brass or tungsten to size)
- Tail Natural case (hare's mask guard hairs)
- Rib Gold middle (fine oval or wire tinsel)
- Body Hare's ear natural (hare's ear dubbing)
- Flashback Pearl flashabou (Krystal Flash or Flashabou)
- Collar Brown partridge (1 soft-hackle feather)
How to tie it
- Slide a gold bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start thread behind the bead.
- Tie in a short tuft of hare's mask guard hairs at the bend, tail about half a shank.
- Bind in the gold rib and a length of pearl Krystal Flash pointing back over the bend.
- Dub a shaggy hare's ear body forward to just behind the bead, leaving room for a collar.
- Pull the pearl flash forward over the top as a flashback and bind it down behind the bead.
- Counter-wrap the rib forward in 4-5 open turns to segment and lock the flash, then tie off and snip.
- Wind one or two turns of partridge for a soft-hackle collar, whip finish behind the bead, and pick out the dubbing to look buggy.
