Guacamole Hopper

Terrestrial · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL terrestrial/hopper hook, 8-12
  • Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

  • Body Guacamole green (2mm foam strip)
  • Underbody Green shell lip (thin dubbing or Ice Dub)
  • Wing Natural case (elk or deer hair)
  • Legs Green/black barred rubber legs (2 pairs round rubber)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (small foam post)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base to the point at the bend.
  2. Bind a green foam strip at the bend, then fold and bind it forward in two segments to build a plump body, stopping at the 70% mark.
  3. Optionally dub a thin green underbody between segments for a little sparkle.
  4. Stack and tie in an elk-hair wing over the body, tips just past the bend, half the clump you think you need.
  5. Add a pair of barred rubber legs on each side with figure-8 wraps, kicking out and back.
  6. Pull a small orange foam tab up over the thorax as a sight post and bind at the eye.
  7. Whip finish under the foam head and trim the foam and legs to length.
