Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet fly hook, 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Red buzzer wrap (small bunch of hackle fibers)
  • Body floss Green tag floss (1 length)
  • Rib Silver tinsel (1 length)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
  • Wing Grey mallard flank (1 slip)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and lay a base back to the point of the hook.
  2. Tie in a short red hackle-fibre tail one hook-gap long.
  3. Tie in silver tinsel for the rib and green floss for the body at the tail.
  4. Wrap the floss forward to two eye-widths behind the eye and tie off.
  5. Rib the body with evenly spaced open turns of silver tinsel and tie off.
  6. Tie in and wrap two to three turns of grizzly hackle as a soft collar, then sweep the fibres back.
  7. Set a grey mallard flank wing over the top, extending to the tail.
  8. Form a neat head and whip finish.
