  • Hook Curved emerger/scud hook, 18-22

Materials

  • Shuck Amber vinyl rib medium (few fibers Antron/Zelon)
  • Body Peacock ice dub (1 herl)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 undersized dry-fly hackle)
  • Thorax Peacock ice dub (1-2 wraps herl)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread behind the eye, running back to the bend at the point.
  2. Bind in a sparse trailing shuck no longer than half a shank so it hangs into the film.
  3. Tie in one peacock herl and one grizzly hackle by the tip at the bend, shiny side forward.
  4. Wrap the herl forward to the 80% mark in touching turns for a fat little body, then bind and snip.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward through the body in 4-5 open turns, tie off, and snip the surplus.
  6. Add one or two herl wraps in front of the hackle for a thorax bump and clear a small head.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and, if it sits too high, trim the bottom hackle flat so it rides in the surface.
