Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 18-22
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Body Peacock ice dub (1 herl)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (one undersized, palmered)
  • Post/Sighter Hi-vis white or orange (small tuft poly yarn)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the small hook and start thread behind the eye.
  2. Stand a short tuft of hi-vis poly yarn upright at the 75% mark as a sighter post.
  3. Tie in a grizzly hackle by the tip at the bend, then one peacock herl.
  4. Twist the herl into a rope and wind a slim body forward to the post.
  5. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward in 5-6 open turns, working around the post, and tie off.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and trim the post to about one gap tall.
