Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 18-22
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Body Peacock ice dub (1 herl)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (one undersized, palmered)
  • Wing/Puff Natural dun CDC (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the small hook and start thread behind the eye.
  2. Tie in a grizzly hackle by the tip at the bend, then one peacock herl.
  3. Twist the herl into a rope and wind a slim body forward to the 80% mark.
  4. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward in 5-6 open turns and tie off at the 80% mark.
  5. Tie in a small tuft of dun CDC standing up at the front as a wing and visibility puff.
  6. Build a tiny head, whip finish, and leave the CDC undressed so it stays buoyant.
