Classic Recipe
- Hook Standard wet fly / spider hook, 12-16
- Thread Straw (Pearsall's Gossamer) 8/0
Materials
- Silk Straw-coloured Pearsall's Gossamer, waxed (full body)
- Body The waxed straw silk (shank)
- Hackle Light feather from a partridge's breast (1-2 turns)
How to tie it
- Run the straw silk from behind the eye to above the barb and back to the two-thirds mark; the straw silk itself is the body.
- Tie in a light barred feather from a partridge's breast by the tip near the front.
- Take one or two sparse turns of hackle and secure.
- Stroke the hackle fibres back so they sweep along the body, build a small head, whip finish and varnish.
