Grey Boy Buzzer

Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved buzzer/grub hook, 10-16
  • Thread gray 8/0

Materials

  • Body Gray flotation (thread or floss, thin)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (fine wire or pearl tinsel)
  • Breathers White uni stretch (small tuft antron, at head)
  • Cheeks/Thorax Gunmetal gray material (dubbing or thread build-up)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run a smooth, slim thread base right around the bend, keeping it thin.
  2. Tie in the silver rib at the bend.
  3. Build a slim gray body forward to the 80% mark, tapering slightly fatter toward the front.
  4. Rib the body with 5-6 evenly spaced open turns and tie off.
  5. Tie in a small tuft of white antron breathers at the head, standing over the eye.
  6. Build a slightly fatter gunmetal-gray thorax behind the breathers to suggest the wingbuds.
  7. Whip finish, then coat the whole body with thin UV resin or varnish for the classic glassy buzzer shine.
