Classic Recipe

  • Hook Scud/curved, 12-16

Materials

  • Body Bright green dubbing or latex (segmented)
  • Thorax Black dubbing (small)
  • Legs Black hen (sparse)
  • Bead Black tungsten bead (1)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a black bead onto the curved hook.
  2. Build a bright green segmented body around the curve. Genuinely bright; Rhyacophila are almost chartreuse.
  3. Dub a small black thorax, add a few black hen fibers as legs.
  4. Whip finish behind the bead.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Bright green dubbing or latex: Chartreuse Superfine — Easy to dub bright body; Green latex strip (wrapped) — Translucent and segmented; Chartreuse vernille — Quick body, bright color
  • Thorax instead of Black dubbing: Peacock herl — Buggy, iridescent head; Black Ice Dub — Dark with flash
