Tyer Recipe

  • Hook standard wet fly, 8-12
  • Thread brown 8/0

Materials

  • seal fur or dubbing Olive-green dubbing (body)
  • oval tinsel Gold oval tinsel (rib)
  • pheasant tail / cock pheasant centre fibers Natural brown pheasant tail fibers (wing)
  • hen hackle Red-brown (ginger) hen hackle (2-3 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in gold oval tinsel for the rib at the bend.
  3. Dub an olive-green seal-fur body forward, leaving room at the head.
  4. Rib forward with the gold tinsel in evenly spaced open turns and tie off.
  5. Tie in a wing of cock pheasant tail fibers sloping back over the body.
  6. Tie in and wrap 2-3 turns of a soft red-brown hen hackle at the front, sweeping back.
  7. Whip finish.
