Classic Recipe

  • Hook Small double or single salmon hook, 6-9 (double)
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tag Silver twist and yellow silk (as needed)
  • Tail Golden pheasant topping (1)
  • Body Light blue silk (full shank)
  • Rib Oval silver tinsel (5-6 turns)
  • Throat Light blue hackle (1 collar)
  • Wing Peacock herl and golden pheasant sword feather (1 bunch + 1)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a tag of silver twist and yellow silk over the barb, then tie in a single golden pheasant topping for the tail.
  2. Cover the shank with light blue silk and rib it with oval silver tinsel in evenly spaced turns.
  3. Wind a light blue hackle at the throat as a beard and stroke it down.
  4. Lay a bunch of peacock herl over the body with a golden pheasant sword feather for the wing.
  5. Form a small head and whip finish.
