Start the thread on the size 14 standard dry fly hook and lay a base to the bend.
Tie in eight to ten Lady Amherst Pheasant Tippets as a fairly long tail, trying to get both black bars showing.
Take the thread close to the front and catch in the Floss, binding it back to the start of the tail, then bring the thread forward again.
Catch in one strand of Peacock Herl well back from the tip, past the brittle section, and bind it back along the shank.
Wrap the Peacock Herl forward in touching turns to the front, watching the hook point, and tie it off. The herl underbody under a floss rib is what makes this durable.
Cord the Floss up partway, not flat and not fully twisted, test the band width with a couple of wraps, then rib it forward in open turns over the herl and tie off at the front.
Tie in the Light Dry Fly hackle well back from the eye so there is room for plenty of turns, and wind it forward heavily to near the eye. Catch it off and snip.
Pull the forward-pointing barbs back, take a few wraps to make a flat area (not so far back that you sweep the fibres), whip finish, and add a drop of head cement.
