Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 10-12
  • Thread olive 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Moose (several fibers)
  • Body Olive-green material (fine dubbing)
  • Wing Dark dun deer/elk (upright and divided)
  • Hackle Grizzly and dyed-olive grizzly hackle (two, mixed)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base to the 65% mark.
  2. Stack a clump of dark dun deer hair, tie it in at the 65% mark standing upright, and split it into two wings with figure-8 turns.
  3. Bind several moose fibers at the bend for a tail one shank length long.
  4. Dub a tapered olive-green body forward to the wing.
  5. Tie in one grizzly and one dyed-olive grizzly hackle at the wing base.
  6. Wind both hackles together, 3-4 turns behind and 3-4 turns in front of the wing, then tie off.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and cement the head.
