Classic Recipe
Hook 2x nymph, 8-12
Thread Olive-brown 6/0
Materials
Tail Pheasant tail fibers (3, short)
Body Olive-brown dubbing, robust (tapered)
Rib Gold wire (spiral)
Gills Ostrich herl along sides (optional)
Wingcase Dark turkey (wide)
Legs Hen back (sprawly)
How to tie it
Mount the 2x nymph hook and run olive-brown thread to the bend.
Tie in 3 short pheasant tail fibers as a tail, then catch in gold wire for the rib.
Optionally tie in a length of ostrich herl each side to trail as gills, then dub a robust tapered olive-brown abdomen forward over the rear two-thirds.
Spiral the gold wire forward in 5-6 even turns to rib and secure (binding down the gill herl as you go).
Tie in a wide dark turkey slip for the wingcase, then dub a thick thorax.
Tie in sprawly hen-back fibers each side as legs, then pull the turkey wingcase over and bind down.
