Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 10-12
  • Thread olive 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Moose (3-4 fibers, split)
  • Body Olive/cream-olive material (fine dubbing)
  • Rib Brown permanent marker (fine thread)
  • Wing Natural dun deer (comparadun fan)
  • Legs Barred olive rubber legs (2 silicone leg strands)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base back to the bend.
  2. Stack a fan of dun deer hair at the 65% mark and stand it up as a comparadun wing spread 180 degrees across the top.
  3. Bind three moose fibers at the bend and split them into a wide V tail against a small dubbing ball.
  4. Dub a tapered olive body forward to the wing and rib it with 4-5 open thread turns.
  5. Tie a silicone leg strand along each side at the wing base so the tips sweep back past the body.
  6. Dub a small thorax around the wing base to lock everything and prop the wing upright.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and trim the legs to about one shank length.
