How to tie it
Slide a 3mm gold tungsten bead onto the E500, seat it at the eye, and start black Sumo 30 den behind it. Black thread is deliberate. It darkens the green dubbing to a dirty green and makes the pearl ribbing pop against it.
Wind the thread to the bend, tie in the pearl UV ribbing fibre, and take the thread back forward.
Dub a full body of caddis green opossum from the bend to the 70% mark. Opossum is highly UV-reactive, which is what keeps the fly visible to fish in deeper water.
Rib forward with five or six open turns of pearl UV ribbing fibre. Pearl is chosen over metallic wire on purpose: it gives translucency rather than a hard flash, which reads far more like a real insect.
Dub a short thorax behind the bead with brown and black opossum blended, keeping it fatter than the body so the fly has a distinct shoulder.
Whip finish behind the bead and pick the whole fly out hard with a brush. Three materials and nothing else, but tie it in 12 to 14 and it is a used in calcareous and sandstone rivers with greenish or light-coloured stones.
