Materials
Bead Black brass or tungsten bead (One, sized to the hook)
Wire Sculpin olive or olive (UTC small, for the rib)
Micro chenille Pale olive micro chenille (One length for the body)
Flashabou Opal Mirage (A few strands for the flash)
Hen hackle Olive (Brahma hen or similar) (One feather for the legs/wing buds)
Haretron dubbing Brown and black haretron dubbing (A bushy pinch for the head, combed out)
How to tie it
Slide a black bead onto a #18 Firehole 317, mount the hook and start olive dun thread behind the bead.
Wrap a thread base back to the bend and tie in the small olive wire there.
Tie in the pale olive micro chenille at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns to about the 70% point, then tie it off and trim.
Rib the body with the olive wire in four or five evenly spaced open turns and helicopter it off.
Tie in a few strands of opal Mirage Flashabou, splitting them to each side of the body, and trim them to about the hook point so they suggest the gas bubble of the pupa.
Tie in the olive hen feather by the tip and take one or two turns as legs and wing buds, stroking the barbs back and securing them so they sweep toward the bend.
Dub a bushy head of brown and black Haretron in the gap between the hen collar and the bead, keeping it deliberately shaggy.
Whip finish behind the bead and comb the head dubbing out with a brush so it blends into the hen fibers.
