  • Hackle Grey hackle (partridge)

How to tie it

  1. Slot the 3.8mm black nickel tungsten onto the size 12 jig hook and start pale light olive Sumo 30 denier thread.
  2. Lay a green Perdigon body thread underbody the length of the shank. Diamond thread is semi-transparent, so this underbody decides the final colour of the fly.
  3. Wrap the green sparkle Diamond Body Thread forward in tight touching turns to the 70% mark. Vasies uses this in place of green dubbing here because it gives a slimmer, harder body that keeps its sparkle when wet.
  4. Dub a small olive Mad Rabbit thorax behind the bead to give the front of the fly some texture against the slick body.
  5. Tie in a grey partridge feather by the tip and take one and a half turns behind the bead, sweeping the barbs back.
  6. Whip finish. Fish it in murky or algae-stained water where a flash of green cuts through, or as a general attractor any time of year.
