Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 14-18
  • Thread Gray 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Dun fibers (bunch)
  • Body Stripped peacock quill (wrapped)
  • Wing Gray hen tips (upright)
  • Hackle Blue dun hackle (2 feathers)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the dry hook and run gray thread to the mid-shank wing point.
  2. Tie in two gray hen tips upright as wings, then post and divide them.
  3. Run thread to the bend and tie in a bunch of dun fibers as a tail, one shank long.
  4. Tie in a stripped peacock quill and wrap it forward in touching turns for a segmented body to behind the wings and tie off.
  5. Tie in two blue dun hackles behind and in front of the wings.
  6. Wind the hackles into a dense collar, tie off, whip finish and varnish.
