Grey: Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet fly, 10-14

Materials

  • Tag Flat gold tinsel (2 turns)
  • Tail Red hackle fibers (short)
  • Rib Flat gold tinsel (fine)
  • Body Peacock herl (or yellow floss for Grey Hackle Yellow) (3 strands)
  • Hackle Grizzly hen hackle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a short gold tag and tie in the red tail at the bend.
  2. Wrap the peacock herl body to the 80% mark; for the Grey Hackle Yellow variant use yellow floss ribbed with the tinsel instead.
  3. Wind 2-3 turns of soft grizzly hen hackle.
  4. Sweep back and whip finish.
