Pinch the barb on the 7x-long streamer hook and start the Black thread near the eye with a short base.
Tie in the Orange wool yarn at the front and bind it all the way back to the bend. Wrapping it in from the front builds a slight underbody and stops a lump forming at the rear.
Snip the yarn tail, erring long (you can always shorten it), and brush it out fluffy now, before other materials are in the way.
Tie in both pieces of medium Chenille at the rear, black underneath and white on top.
Pull the bottom (black) chenille forward and take one full wrap. Swap the two strands so the white is now the working strand and take one wrap of white. Keep swapping with every band, alternating one strand under and the next over, and keep every wrap going the same direction around the shank. That is what gives distinct black and white bands instead of a spiral.
Continue the bands to the front, tie both chenilles off, snip, and take a few extra wraps to tame the front.
Tie in a small tuft of pink calftail right on the bottom as the throat (teased-out pink wool works instead).
Wax the thread. Tie in a sparse, unstacked bunch of white calftail on top as the wing, reaching about to the bend but not past the tail: a pinch wrap, one wrap underneath to keep it from spinning without propping it up, then a couple more on top. Snip the butts.
Wax the thread again and add a small sliver of Fox squirrel tail as the topping, matched to the white for length: pinch wrap, then a couple of tight wraps, not going too far forward so you are not left with extra hair to bury in the head.
Take the thread back behind the eye and build a good-sized streamer head, whip finish, fluff the tail again, trim any rogue fibres, and add a drop of head cement.
