Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy-wire streamer/predator hook, 2/0-4/0
  • Thread White or to match 210 denier / GSP

Materials

  • Tail Firetiger / natural (chartreuse-olive-white) (2 bucktail or synthetic clumps)
  • Flash Holographic gold/pearl flash (generous bunch mylar/Flashabou)
  • Body/Head Matching craft fur or bucktail (several stacked collars)
  • Collar Contrasting (olive over white) (spun bucktail/craft fur)
  • Eyes Yellow/red 3D eyes (1 pair, glued (optional))
  • Adhesive Clear head cement (UV resin at head)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the big hook and lay a thread base over the rear third.
  2. Tie in a baitfish tail of stacked bucktail or synthetic in white, then olive, splaying it wide, about two shank lengths long.
  3. Bind a generous bunch of holographic mylar flash the full length of the tail so it flashes and kicks.
  4. Work forward tying in reversed, stacked collars of bucktail or spun craft fur, packing each one back to build a dense, water-pushing profile.
  5. Add a top collar of darker fibers and a belly of white so it shows a baitfish back-and-belly.
  6. Spin and flare a final bulky craft-fur head, sweep everything back, and whip finish; the fat head pushes water and makes the body pulse.
  7. Glue on 3D eyes and lock the head with UV resin.
