Classic Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater hook, 4-8
  • Thread Pink 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Bead chain (1 pair, silver)
  • Body Pearl Diamond Braid (wrapped)
  • Wing Craft fur (tan or light pink)
  • Flash Krystal Flash (4-6 strands)

How to tie it

  1. Mount hook, tie in silver bead chain eyes near the hook eye. Traditionally the Gotcha gets a short pink thread "nose" built in front of the eyes. Keep that signature.
  2. Wrap pearl Diamond Braid from the bend to the eyes in smooth touching turns.
  3. Flip the hook. Tie in a sparse craft fur wing with 4-6 strands of Krystal Flash, extending about one shank length past the bend.
  4. Finish the pink nose, whip finish, cement.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Pearl Diamond Braid: Pearl Flashabou (doubled) — Flashier body; Pearl EZ Body — Braided, clean look
  • Wing instead of Craft fur: Tan EP Fibers — Dries faster after each cast; Calf tail (tan) — Stiffer, more traditional
  • Eyes instead of Bead chain: Small dumbbell eyes — Heavier, for deeper flats; Plastic bead chain — Lightest, for very skinny water
