Gotcha Lead Eye

Shrimp · Bonefish · Permit · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater flats hook, 2-6
  • Thread Pink 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Silver/painted material (1 pair lead dumbbell)
  • Tail Pearl anti static bag strip (1 small clump pearl flash)
  • Body Pearl anti static bag strip (1 strand pearl Diamond Braid)
  • Wing Tan/amber material (1 sparse clump craft fur)
  • Head Pink ears (thread)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash the lead dumbbell eyes on top one-third back from the hook eye so it rides point-up.
  2. Tie in a short pearl flash tail at the bend, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the pearl braid, wrap it forward to the eyes, figure-8 around them, and tie off in front.
  4. Invert the hook and tie a sparse tan craft-fur wing in front of the eyes, laid back over the body past the bend.
  5. Keep the profile slim and translucent.
  6. Build a pink thread head, whip finish, and cement.
  7. Check the wing sits above the point.
