Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater flats hook, 2-6
  • Thread Pink 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Silver/chrome material (1 pair medium lead/brass dumbbell)
  • Tail Pearl anti static bag strip (1 small clump pearl flash)
  • Body Pearl anti static bag strip (1 strand pearl Diamond Braid)
  • Wing Tan/amber material (1 sparse clump craft fur)
  • Head Pink ears (thread)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash a pair of heavy dumbbell eyes on top about one-third back so the fly rides point-up and sinks fast.
  2. At the bend tie in a short pearl flash tail, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the pearl braid, wrap forward to the eyes, figure-8 around them, and tie off in front.
  4. Invert the hook and tie a sparse tan craft-fur wing in front of the eyes, sweeping back just past the bend.
  5. Keep it sparse so the extra weight, not bulk, carries it down.
  6. Build a smooth pink thread head, whip finish, and cement.
  7. Verify the wing rides above the point.
