Shrimp · Bonefish · Permit · Redfish · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard saltwater flats hook, 2-8
- Thread Pink 140 denier
Materials
- Eyes Silver/gold material (1 pair bead-chain)
- Tail Pearl anti static bag strip (1 small clump pearl Flashabou/Krystal Flash)
- Body Pearl anti static bag strip (1 strand pearl Diamond Braid)
- Wing Tan/amber material (1 sparse clump craft fur or calf tail)
- Head Pink ears (thread)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and lash the bead-chain eyes on top about one-third back from the eye so the fly rides point-up.
- At the bend tie in a short pearl flash tail about half a shank long.
- Tie in the pearl braid, wrap forward to behind the eyes, figure-8 around them, and tie off in front.
- Invert the hook and tie a sparse clump of tan craft fur in front of the eyes so it lies back over the body just past the bend.
- Keep the wing thin; a Gotcha should look sparse and translucent.
- Build a smooth pink thread head, whip finish, and cement.
- Confirm the wing rides above the hook point.
