Reference Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank saltwater/streamer hook (Umpqua XS 506H), 2
  • Thread Grey or white 140 or 210 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Pearl anti static bag strip (1 pair medium lead eyes)
  • Tail Pearl grey / shad grey (1 strung blood-quill marabou plume)
  • Flash Silver flashabou (few strands Flashabou)
  • Body Pearl grey anti static bag asb strip (1 strand medium Palmer chenille)
  • Gills Fluorescent hot pink material (1 pinch UV Ice Dub)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash the pearl lead eyes on top near the eye with figure-8 wraps, then lock and glue.
  2. At the bend tie in a grey marabou tail about one shank length and stroke it to a point.
  3. Add a few strands of silver Flashabou over the tail, trimmed to tail length.
  4. Tie in the palmer chenille at the tail base and advance the thread to behind the eyes.
  5. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns, cross under and around the lead eyes, and tie off in front.
  6. Dub a small collar of hot-pink UV Ice Dub right behind the hook eye to suggest gills.
  7. Whip finish and add a drop of head cement.
