Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph, 3x long, 4-8
  • Thread Golden brown 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Golden goose biots (2)
  • Body Golden dubbing (segmented)
  • Rib Gold wire or Swannundaze (5 inches)
  • Wingcase Turkey tail (2 sections)
  • Legs Brown mottled hackle (picked out)
  • Bead Gold tungsten bead (1 large)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a large gold tungsten bead on and add lead wraps.
  2. Tie in two golden biots at the bend, forked wide.
  3. Dub a golden-brown abdomen and rib it heavily. 5-6 turns of gold wire or Swannundaze.
  4. Build the two-stage thorax with paired turkey wingcases, mottled hackle legs picked out at each stage.
  5. Whip finish behind the bead.

  • Body instead of Golden dubbing: Amber Hare-Tron — Buggy golden texture; Gold Sow Scud dubbing — Coarse and lifelike
  • Rib instead of Gold wire or Swannundaze: Gold D-Rib — Wide segmentation; Amber vinyl rib — Translucent segments
  • Wingcase instead of Turkey tail: Mottled Thin Skin — Much more durable; Golden brown Scud Back — Translucent
  • Bead instead of Gold tungsten: Copper tungsten — Warmer tone; Mottled tungsten — Natural, stone-like look
