Golden Stone Barred Leg

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL curved nymph hook, 6-10
  • Thread Golden brown 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Gold or copper slotted tungsten bead (1, sized to hook (optional))
  • Weight Lead-free (8-10 wraps .020 wire)
  • Tails Golden brown biots (1 pair, splayed)
  • Abdomen Golden yellow/amber material (dubbing or golden pheasant tail)
  • Rib Copper or gold material (wire, medium)
  • Legs Barred tan/brown rubber legs (2 pairs round rubber)
  • Wingcase Mottled brown thin skin (turkey or thin skin)
  • Thorax Golden brown swiss straw (1 pinch dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Bead and mount the hook, add lead-free wraps over the thorax area, and cover with thread.
  2. Tie in a splayed pair of golden biots at the bend for tails about one gap wide.
  3. Bind in the wire rib, then dub a slim golden abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib forward in 5-6 even turns and tie off to segment the abdomen.
  5. Tie in the wingcase material pointing back, then figure-8 a pair of barred rubber legs on each side of the thorax.
  6. Dub a fuller golden thorax around the legs, pull the wingcase over the top, and bind it down behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish, then trim legs to about one shank length and pick out the thorax.
