Classic Recipe

  • Hook streamer hook, #4-8
  • Thread tan or gold 6/0 (140 denier) or GSP

Materials

  • Head Fish-Skull Baitfish Head (gold/pearl) (1, sized to hook)
  • Tail/wing Marabou or synthetic baitfish fiber (gold/tan) (sparse)
  • Flash Gold flashabou (several strands)
  • Body Flash dubbing / EP fiber (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a sparse marabou or synthetic baitfish wing about a shank-and-a-half long so the fly stays slim and mobile.
  2. Add several strands of gold Flashabou through the wing for a metallic baitfish flank.
  3. Build a sparse flash-dubbing or EP-fiber body forward, keeping the overall profile translucent.
  4. Slide a gold Fish-Skull Baitfish Head to the eye and secure it, this gives weight, a jigging dive, and a realistic head/eye.
  5. Whip finish behind the head and add a touch of head cement.
  6. Keep the whole fly sparse, the Baitfish Head does the work, diving and darting on the strip.
