Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL dry/terrestrial hook, 6-10
- Thread Tan 6/0 (140 denier)
Materials
- Body Golden/tan foam (2mm strip, layered)
- Underbody Golden yellow polar bear or substitute (1 pinch dubbing)
- Wing Natural/bleached elk hair (1 stacked clump)
- Legs Barred tan/gold rubber legs (2 pairs round rubber)
- Indicator Orange or pink material (1 foam tab or poly tuft)
- Hackle Grizzly/ginger hackle (1 feather (optional palmered))
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and lay a thread base the length of the shank.
- Bind the golden foam strip at the bend so a short tab of foam over-hangs, then dub a thin golden underbody forward to the 60% mark.
- Pull the foam over the top and lash it down at the 60% mark to segment the body, leaving foam forward for the head.
- Stack a clump of elk hair and tie it in as a low wing reaching just past the bend, butts trimmed at an angle over the thorax.
- Figure-8 a pair of barred rubber legs on each side so they splay out at the segment tie-down.
- Fold the remaining foam forward over the thorax to form a bullet head, bind at the eye, and set a bright indicator tab on top so you can track it.
- Whip finish under the foam head and trim legs to about one shank length.
