Classic Recipe
- Hook Standard wet fly hook, small, 14-18
- Thread Grey / olive 8/0
Materials
- Tail Grey hackle fibres (short)
- Rib Fine gold tinsel (4-5 turns)
- Body Pale green floss (slim)
- Hackle Grey hen (sparse beard/collar)
- Wing Light slate quill slips (pair)
How to tie it
- Start the thread and tie in a short grey tail at the bend.
- Tie in fine gold tinsel, then wind a slim pale green floss body forward, stopping short of the eye.
- Spiral the gold rib forward in 4-5 even turns and tie off.
- Apply a sparse grey hen hackle as a beard (or a light collar).
- Set a matched pair of light slate quill slips low over the body as the wing; build a small neat head, whip finish and varnish.
