Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (60-degree eye), 12-16
  • Thread Tan 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Gold slotted tungsten (1, 1/8" or 7/64")
  • Tail Tan/brown crust accent (1 small marabou tuft)
  • Body Gold middle (1 strand pearl/gold Estaz or micro cactus chenille)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (2-3 strands Krystal Flash (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Seat the gold slotted bead against the jig eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a sparse marabou tail about one shank length, wetting and stroking it to a point.
  3. Bind a couple strands of pearl flash over the tail, same length or slightly shorter.
  4. Tie in the Estaz at the tail base and advance the thread to just behind the bead.
  5. Palmer the Estaz forward in touching turns to build a slim, buggy body; tie off behind the bead and snip.
  6. Sweep the fibers rearward, build a small thread collar, and whip finish behind the bead.
  7. Pick out a few body fibers so it breathes; keep it a shade shy of the bead so the jig rides clean.
