Gold Bead Wooly Bugger Peacock & Grizzly

Classic Recipe

  • Hook 4X-long streamer hook, #4-12
  • Thread black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Weight Lead-free wire (8-10 turns (optional))
  • Tail Black marabou (1 plume, shank length)
  • Flash Peacock Krystal Flash (few strands each side (optional))
  • Rib Fine gold or copper wire (4-5 turns)
  • Body Peacock herl or peacock chenille (wrapped)
  • Hackle Grizzly saddle (1, palmered)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye and add 8-10 turns of lead-free wire behind it for weight, shoving them into the bead.
  2. Tie in a shank-length black marabou tail at the bend, adding a few strands of peacock Krystal Flash down each side if you want extra sparkle.
  3. Tie in the wire rib and a grizzly saddle hackle by the tip at the bend.
  4. Wrap a full peacock herl (or peacock chenille) body forward to just behind the bead.
  5. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns to the bead.
  6. Counter-wrap the wire rib forward through the hackle (opposite direction) to lock the hackle stems in and make the fly bombproof.
  7. Tie off behind the bead, whip finish; the barred grizzly over iridescent peacock is a buggy combo.
